2022 Raffle and Auction

We have a wonderfully large selection of fabulous Deerhound items to tempt you this year, thanks to the generosity of our members and friends, including some truly unique and valuable pieces. In fact, we have so much that we are having three auctions! One pre-show online auction on Facebook, one silent auction during the Friday dinner, and on Saturday evening, a live professional auctioneer will present the rest of our items during “happy hour” before dinner.

Our online auction was a great success and some lucky people took home some rare and lovely pieces — but please don’t think that you’ve missed out! We still have some wonderful things waiting in the wings!

Just to whet your appetites, we’re going to preview  one of them — perhaps the pièce de résistance.

This is a 14k gold pin (see photo below) set with twelve diamonds, which has been recently valued at $6195. (The appraisal will be available at the auction.) The pin is from the estate of Jeanne Frye and was clearly modeled on a medallion originally designed by The Deerhound Club UK as a keeper for the “New Members Cup”–1923-1985. They were done in silver for a long time but then silver became too expensive.  Information and photo of the UK medal was provided by Barb Heidenreich.  It is unclear whether this was the prototype or made to be sold separately.

There is such a wealth of highly desirable items that we can promise that there will be many great pieces in the raffle, as well. And in addition to the regular raffle, there will be a special raffle of some amazing items! See one of them at left. This is a beautiful, sensitive piece by Amy Romaniec of High Horse Farm that captures perfectly the gentle expression of our breed.

But there will be two lucky winners in this special raffle!

In addition to Amy’s stunning contribution, there will be a wicker hamper, stuffed with Scottish comestibles, along with a tartan picnic blanket with a waterproof underside and a wee dram with which to wash the goodies down.

The hamper contains Brodies of Edinburgh Scottish Breakfast tea, a can of Scottish haggis with a jar of whisky haggis sauce from The Little Herb Farm, a box of The Shortbread House of Edinburgh’s Truly Handmade shortbread with warming stem ginger, a tin of Stockans’ oatcakes from the Orkney Islands,  a bag of Mackies of Scotland haggis and black pepper flavored potato chips (they contain no actual haggis, but are flavored with the same spice blend, and I’m told they are addictive), a jar of Mrs. Bridges’ Scottish blackcurrant preserves, a tin of Isle of Skye sea salt caramel fudge, a box of Dean’s melt-in-the-mouth lemon curd shortbread, a jar of Heather Hills Farm Scottish heather honey, two specialty wineglasses (not shown) and last, but hardly least, a bottle of The Dalmore 12-year-old single malt whiskey in the beautiful caberfeidh bottle (donated by Pam Smithson).

Tickets for the special raffle will be available at the show for $5.00 each, or a sheet of 10 for $45.00. Either item would be cheaply had for the price of a sheet of tickets!
