Hotel and other Accommodations
Our host hotel is the Bavarian Inn Lodge at 1 Covered Bridge Lane, Frankenmuth, Michigan 48734 (www.bavarianinn.com). The Lodge is situated on seven acres along the Cass River, and adjoins Heritage Park, so there are ample opportunities for long dog walks in the shade along the river. Some will recall it as the site of the 2006 Centennial Specialty and the 2012 Specialty celebrating the Medieval Deerhound.
The address refers to the Zehnder Holz Brücke — a 239′ wooden covered bridge that was pulled across the Cass River by Buck and Bright, a pair of oxen. It is the only known covered bridge to sport dormer windows.
The Lodge was first opened in 1986 with 100 guest rooms, Oma’s Restaurant, the Lorelei Lounge, Martha’s Gift Shop, a game room, a pool, a whirlpool, and the River Rooms Convention area. Today, it has 360 guestrooms (268 standards, 46 kings, 24 whirlpools, 17 family suites, and 5 mini-suites) and there are added convention rooms and more pools, including a waterfall pool. It may be difficult to imagine how something this size can be cozy, but the lodge manages.
A standard room has two double beds and all rooms are equipped with refrigerator, iron and ironing board, coffee maker, and blow dryer, and all have internet access. Club rates are $139 per night for deluxe and premium rooms, and $199 per night for suites. This includes up to four people per room, but roll-aways are an additional $15. There must be no more than four dogs in a standard room and no more than five in a suite. Reservations must be made on the hotel’s form and will be accepted starting January 10, 2022.
Parking is ample, and complimentary while staying at the hotel. Those traveling in RVs are welcome to park at the hotel during the day, but may not occupy RVs in the lot overnight, per town ordinance. There are RV parks nearby for overnight stays — Jellystone Park Camp Resort is less than a mile from the Lodge, and Pine Ridge RV Campground is 7.5 miles from the Lodge.
Frankenmuth is a beautiful tourist town and there are numerous restaurants, shopping venues, and recreation facilities nearby, including a public golf course. There are also many other hotels and motels, including the pet-friendly Holiday Inn Express & Suites, the Drury Inn & Suites, and the Frankenmuth Motel.
There are three airports close to Frankenmuth: Bishop International Airport (FNT) in Flint and MBS International airport (MBS) in Saginaw, are both approximately 30 minutes from the hotel and have rental cars and available shuttle service. Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) is about 1 1/2 hours away, will offer the greatest selection of airlines and schedules, and is the only one with wide-body service. It has a full complement of rental vehicles and limo service.
Sadly, dog clubs are no longer allowed in the area where we had our rings in the past, but we have a very nice ring site available at the Zehnder Homestead property next door to the hotel. For more information, please see the Ring Site page.
